Design!

Welcome to the mess. It’s a lot like moving or redesigning your house. You’ve got a lot of ideas and you really have a vision on things but ehrm, it all doesn’t really (really doesn’t) work out!

Bottom line: I’m no geek or nerd, I should stick with working on sound/ audio and shit like that, I know but, I’m just hard headed and I won’t let go until I finish this bitch right! Please bare with me over the next weeks!

Here we go again!

It’s been a great while. I’ve chosen to remove earlier items as writing the last of those was more than 2 months ago. Kind of a fresh start you might say, though I have not showered yet…

Anyhow, lets give it another go!

Work vs. Daydreaming

There’s a guy sitting behind his desk, looking at the computer screen. He’s not at easy. You could easily see he’s got too much energy. Too much on his mind too. Thoughts shooting through his head at the speed of light. He can’t sit still but, he has too…

^^That’s me right now. I’m trying to work on something for my internship but the thing is, there’s so much on my mind right now and I have this crazy amount of energy in my body that I find it hard to focus. Everytime I try something else draws my attention.

Most of the times I try to ignore those thoughts and get on with my work. I miserably fail at that and end up daydreaming about the next best thing that’s on my mind.

Anyway, just wanted to writ it down so that maybe, just maybe, I could get it off my mind and get on with my work. I will try so now, or actually, in a bit. For now I’ll daydream about October 3rd, the day that Swiss’ Denise & Katharina will arrive in Holland to visit me (oh well, and the country too..) for one week. After a nice time spent there this summer I miss then right now. They ar one of my daydreams cause, that’s what keeps them close, so far apart…

Surgery!

There was this problem that I had for the last 2,5 years. I don’t know if it’s written in English like this but I think you will understand:

One of my nose cavities [if that's the word] (there’s one left and one right of the bone that’s in the middle of yer nose) was totally blocked by dirt we breathe in everyday. Most bodies clear it up themselves, mine did not. The cavity got bigger and bigger and with that forced the bone in the middle to grow in a way it was not supposed to. This made the cavity on the right side smaller and smaller. For the past 2,5 years I’ve been sounding like I just catched a cold, just because only one cavity was open and could let some air through.

Worst thing about the whole thing was that, since there was no air coming through that left cavity anymore, the pressure on my eardrum got less too. It was sucked in actually. This made me hear less hig frequencies from time to time. As you know I’m a soundtechnician so that’s the worst that can happen!

Well, they cleared out the cavities from all dirt and put the centre bone in the position it’s supposed too. Right up until the surgery, I was making jokes and made everybody laugh. I was making fun of everything, just to make it lighter on myself (cause the surgeon had told me a couple weeks back it would hurt like hell). Even when the anaesthetist was doing her work and telling me: “here comes the sleep” I was telling her: ‘damn woman, I’m just up for three hours and I slept long enough last night…”
Then right away I could feel it coming and told the doctors: “well I’m going to stop talking now, I don’t want to end on half a sentence, that would be rude…” and then I slept…

They messed with my face and stuff. In a good way though.

One hour later or so I awoke in this room where all people go when the’ve been anaesthetized, According to the people there I was awake sooner then most (after 5 minutes). They had to keep me down to the bed cause I was trying to get up all too soon! After 10 minutes when I really started to regain conciousness I did my normal routine again and started chatting away with the nurses. Then the poeple came to bring me back to my room. The nurses in the recoveryroom were relieved because they would get so rest…

Then I did the same routine in my own room, different nurses. After a couple of ours the narcosis that had been killing my pain was used up and that’s when hell (like the surgeon had told me) started. A few people came by at night to visit me but I was in no mood for talking no more, let alone the stupid jokes of earlier on the day!

At night I got a few lighter painkillers (the ones you’d use when you have a headace). Those did not work… I got a shot of morphine.. it covered the night for me…

This morning I had to go to a surgeon again, she would remove the 4 tampons they placed inside of my nose. Those were to keep all in place. The removing hurt like… like ehrm… like F*** F*** F***. It bleeded like that too!

Now I have to keep my rest for 7 – 10 days (awwww man I’ve got a problem with that). All swallen pieces in the nose need 3-4 weeks before the’re back to normal…

Back II “normal” (part II)

Monday my new schoolyear started with a full day of workshops at school. Nice to see everyone again. We got a test, just to see where we are at the start of the year, most things I knew, some i did not and was surprised of how wrong I was with one question so there’s still enough to learn and that’s good!

On Tuesday I started my trainingperiod. I will be working with PB Audio (http://www.pbaudio.nl) again. This time I will work there for one year. Looking forward to the year and hope to reach the goals I’ve set for myself!

Tomorrow (thursday) I have to to the hospital to finally get the surgery on my nose done. No it’s not a cosmetical thing… I have a problem with air going through my nose and the ways after it. Because of that I hear a little less on my left ear. The way through my nose is totally blocked and because of that I also sound like I catched a cold… Will prob. hurt like hell but, I’ll pull through!

Back II “normal”

After 3 weeks of holiday, which were really good for my health and inner peace, the year has kicked off again last week. Just a short walk through the current events…

Last week I started out by organising my record collection. Over the years it has grown into somthing bigger than just a few records. It was getting to a level where I found myself searching for records for an hour or so. Now I’ve indexed all records it’s way easier to get that one record that I want to play from my collection!

Friday and Saturday I’ve been working as a technician in Dxfcsseldorf, Germany. Less than a week before that I’d last spoken german and now I could practice a little more. We did two nice party’s in these two days and I slept 2 hours in between of them!
On saturday we had “The Blueparade” which was kinda like the Loveparade but instead of trucks it used partyships! The ships sailed on the Rhine river from Dxfcsseldorf to Cologne and back. It was a nice party with a laidback atmosphere. At the end I was broken and had a strong desire for my bed. We drove back to Holland and I finally got some sleep at 4a.m..

When the party had ended in Dxfcsseldorf (a little after 10p.m.), I had a phone conversation with the guitarist of Frown (http://www.frown.nl.nu). He asked if I could (and was prepared to-) mix them the next day at a local festival. I agreed.

Sunday, after a few hours of sleep I went to the festival site. What I heard was terrible and I was glad that I could do the mix for Frown…
It went down really nice, especially the last track they did with a few others was a treat as I had more work with those added channels! It was a blast when people out of the crowd came up to me after the gig, thanking me for thsi half an hour of good sound. Hearing such is a real confidence boost!
Right after frown got of the stage, some singer got on the stage and I really felt sorry for the girl that the other technician had taken over again. There was feedback all through her (2 song) set. The soundtech just didn’t hear it… I have to ask: Where do they find those technicians and why do people like that still get the job?

Streetparade

August 14, 2005
Yesterday was Streetparade day and right now, I should not be able to write because I’m too fucking tired/ drunk to do anything. I am able though!

Yesterday started with the alarm going off. I awoke still drunk from the night before but, with the hangover already noching on the door! Popped a light pain killer right away. And erhm, breakfast?! That would have to wait!
Quickly shaved and took a shower. Ran to the trainstation. At the trainstation I found Denise in the same state, you should have seen it, we made a great drunken couple then!

Ok, a little more about the night of august 12 then:
We went to a local discotheque. Music was crap, crowd was crap so we just had to drink our cocktails through the straw to have the alcohol do it’s work best! that’s enough info…

Back to streetparade day: we took the train to Lucerne and were laughing about how we both looked. No traces of any other streetparade go-ers yet tho.
When the train arrived in Luzern we finally saw a bit of what was going to happen that day! Lots of electronic music heads there!

From Lucerne we travelled further to Zxfcrich by train. Though the train was almost fully packed with partyheads there appeared to be a “silence before the storm” kinda atmosphere. It was really nice! Time for breakfast! Yeah that was a good moment, test the body
With a few Red Bull we got it down!

When the train arrived in Zxfcrich the party started. The big hall of that trainsation would be the home to the biggest free afterparty later that night called mainstation. At the moment we arrived there was a dj spinning so crappy hard trance tunes. Anyway, not important, I mean, what he spins, it’s all good today! (well not all, most)

We meet up with some friends of Denise, decide to put our bags in a locker and head into Zxfcrich. Mmmm wait, stop, forgetting something: We can’t put out bags in a locker until our hairs are painted red. Yeah even I did it… Well, what can I say/ It’s the streetparade and that’s ony once a year (and that people, is how you can make an exception for anything )

When @ the parade there’s a few things which catch my eyes/ears. Some cars are really big and pretty and have a big entourage while others seem to be riding the bullshit waves of the recent (fucked up) minimal hype and use the phrase “less is more” on their cars!
This also goes for soundsystems: Some cars have a really loud system that delivers the beats to the crowd while others run on “home made” stuff and are really outpowered by the other cars!

One car runs on D&B audiotechnik, which from my soundtechnician point of view, is pretty ok. It sounds ok too, high frequencies sound a bit too far pushed but it’s still ok. Then comes the backside of the car. Oh my fucking god! They’ve stacked all the sub enclosures on the back! The power from the bass goes way beond “Tiga’s” record “Pleasure From The Bass”! All of us were wearing some kind of ear protection but still this power hurt! I see people whose stomache’s have turned and run off to puke somewhere where it’s not so crowded… Stupid stacking and too loud volume! An irriponsible soundtech probably too blame… too bad!

Anyway, not linger on this too long, it’s still a party. Then comes Club Q’s car, nice, the Prog Housers from Zxfcrich do deliver! When I hear Evolution ft. Jayn Hanna – Walking On Fire bursting through their speakers it’s all good and my party is rockin’!

At around 5.30 pm we decide that we’ve seen enough of the parade and decide to head back to the train station and get a bit of rest before the afterparty! When we walk to the station a few of us get something to eat from various stands. I do too. This is the begin of the end for me…

About half an hour after eating I start getting cold/warm rushes and start feeling naucious, really ill and stuff. I had this before and I know exactly what it is. Though I know better I try to go on 1,5 hours more and hope I can go on through the night. In this 1,5 hours time the body protests more and more and I know that the lights will go out if I don’t stop. I decide to call it a day, going on with a severe case of foodpoisoning would be more than stupid!

Better luck next year!

Sirion Bullshit!

As The title already sais it, I’m home again. Since saturday already…

I’ve been a bit lazy, as usual and that’s why I did not write anything yet. Just now I whooped my own ass (yeah I did), went out the door and did all the things I still needed to do and now that I’m in a good spirit, I thought it would be good to do this one as well! I already updated my homepage too! [spam]http://www.bartintegro.com [/spam]

It’s not totally true you know, the fact that the blog has not been updated because I was too lazy! In the last week that I spent in Switzerland, I went into some internetshop to do so. While I had been writing for a good fifteen minutes and formed a good story, suddenly the browser decided to do a total refresh… Yo can imagine what my mood was after that! G*dd*mn m*therf***ing son of a b*tch!

Anyway, I will try to write it all in short:

August 07, 2005
Today I went to record a DJ set with DJ Mondo & DJ Frango. Two of my favourite DJ’s! They live in Berne and regularly throw party’s in Switserland. More info on them and their party’s can be found on: http://www.sirion-records.ch

During the day I had a blast and we really threw down some wicked cuts! The vibe was amazing! Anyway when we started recording we were still goofing around a bit too much and it resulted in a few screw ups or actually, trainwrecks really. So I’m not to big a man to tell you all: We recorded a freakin’ slamming set in our 2nd attempt!
The tracklist can be found in the mixes archive of the Sirion Records website, furthermore: it’s an exclusive to frisky radio so, to hear it you should tune in there (or send me an e-mail!).
Thanks to DJ’s Mondo & Frango for taking the time to bullshit around a bit with me!

Same day:
I’m still in the train that takes me from Berne to Lucerne. I just received an sms from Denise saying that there should be a big party in luzern that night and if I was willing to come. Mmm have the bag with records with me… ahhh who cares, there’s a party going on and I never miss out on party’s

5 minutes later:
Denise just called, missed her train, unable to come to Lucerne anymore. That’s too f***ing bad! Was hoping on it! Anyway, couple of her friends, which I know from past years, will be there though, so the party is still on!

August 08, 2005
Yesterday’s party was about fireworks! Yes, Fireworks, a whole lot of that! And I really mean A LOT! Dayaaamn the things they shot into the ait last night, just insane! Nice though! The girls I went out with were nice too! Had a good time (and overexpensive beers)! Still a bit bummed that Denise Could not be there tho!

Hello From Switserland (Part II)

Ok, this should be part 0.5 actually. Most of what I’ll write under here happened before the last message. I had forgotten my little diary thinghy then. stupid me! So here we go:

July 31, 2005:
After spending about 8 hours in the ICE train I arrived in Switserland for, I think, the 15th time in my life yesterday. is a really nice train travelling at extreme speeds. The people who run it do a great job however, one think they must learn: Do not switch the FUCKING airco to FREEZE when ixa8′s already cold and stuff! I came out of that thing like I’d just been to the north pole!

When I arrived in the town I will be staying in for the next few weeks, my beloved Denise was waiting for me at the trainstation. That right there is a good start of the holiday I’ll tell you. Nothing beats the smile of that girl! :me blushes: (CHEESY line tho…)

August 1, 2005
Today it’s the so called ‘National Feier’ here in Switserland, which means as much as: National Holiday. The’re celebrating the birthday of this country, hundreds of years ago.

Last night I went to this party in Berne, I was invited bij The people from Sirion Records (http://www.sirion-records.ch). The party appeared to be an open air organised by, from what I understood to be, Gypsies.
During the night, the music wasn’t always good but, the atmosphere was fucking ace! Nice and unbelievable friendly people all over that place!
In this place I’d like to thank the guy’s from Sirion records, thier girlfriends and their friends (I’m sorry but I’m bad at remembering names) for showing me this great time.

After partying I crashed at DJ Frango’s (and his girlfriends) place. A big thank you for letting me stay, you two are just too kind! In the morning we threw down some wicked records and agreed on doing a back to back set together with DJ Mondo next weekend. We will record it exclusively for Frisky Radio (http://www.friskyradio.com) and it should be wicked! (it better be!)

August 4, 2005
That’s right now… and right now, I’m bored sitting behind the pc. I a minute I will go and enjoy my holiday again. will update asap again. I will leave you by telling that with 2,5 weeks to go, I’ve already bought me 15 new records out here. Expect fresh mixes after the summer!

CIAO bitches!
